Reading an image

1) Analyse this RBK 50 Cent advert using the media codes you learned in the lesson: 

The lighting in the image is  quite dark and maybe it suggest that he should be the centre piece of the advert; there first attention should be at him .The background is black but the writing is white which might suggest that their might be a flashback; they may talk about his past as there are also figure prints that might suggest he might of done bad things in the past but he is a changed man but he is still him. The frown on his face suggest that it may be a serious message to get across to the audience, the way they placed the "50 cent" and "I am" in opposite suggest that the past and the present is what made him and it will always be with him. Also suggest that he doesn't regret the past but maybe learnt from it as it says "what i am" on the other side it proves he is a new man. The typography of  the letter `o` being presented as bullets suggest that he was maybe shot in the past and that it has scarred  him and maybe shows him that he is strong.





2) Next, analyse a print advert of your choice using the same media codes: Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative. Make sure you add your chosen print advert using the 'Add image' button in blogger (use Google Images to find the advert first and save it to your pictures or downloads).

The lighting on the poster at the bottom is very bright but the clouds on top are dull and gloomy to suggest the effects of before and after  global warming. The lighting on the bottom left corner of the ice cap is a bit blurry and darker, at the top but the colour camouflages at the bottom which suggest the water is extremely polluted you can see what runs through the water. The toxic gas shown coming out of the letter'L` suggest that those are the buildings or pipes that leave out bad toxic gases affecting the environment, its also kind of darker than the clouds which proves that its got to a state wear u cant see the clouds anymore. The typography  of the writing is coloured in red to suggest that global warming is a big danger and red symbolises that if you dont act on it there will be bad consequences. Some of the letters filled in red might mean that the world is up to its capability and cant hold no more problems(global warming).

  Part 1) Applying Reception theory to adverts Look back at the adverts you have been analysing in  last week's lessons on Reading an Image and media codes  (RBK 50 Cent and one of your choice).  1) What are the preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings for the RBK 50 Cent advert?  Preferred-The preferred reading of this advert is that Reebok is a understanding and non-judgemental brand which accepts people for who they are and don't judge people based on there past and see people for there individual personality as they are a growing brand that encourages people to be themselves.  Negotiated-Some people may get confused to what the advert is about as it looks like the advert is mainly about 50 cent;this is because the brand Reebok is only shown on the bottom which isn't that big,Some people may not see the logo promoting Reebok as they may just scan through the advert as its not obvious the add is for Reebok.   Feminist theory: blog tasks Media Magazine reading - two articles on feminism and theory Read  Playing With The Past: Post-feminism and the Media  ( MM40 , page 64 -  our Media Magazine archive is here ). This is a great example of sophisticated media analysis and an indication of the level we want to be writing at by the end of the two-year course. 1) What examples are provided from the two texts of the 'male gaze' (Mulvey)? The example provided is, HBO’s Pan Am and Beyoncé’s and music video for ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’. 2) Do texts such as these show there is no longer a need for feminism or are they simply sexism in a different form?
