MIGRAIN:AUDIENCE THEORY 1

 Audience theory 1: blog tasks

Hypodermic needle model

1) Read this Mail Online article about the effects of videogames. How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?
It hows that child react the way and learn from what they see as it influences them.

2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?

It suggest that children learn and get influenced badly from playing gruesome video games and by looking at the poster they might get influenced.
3) What do you think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media?
I think that most the times people believe what they hear and see from the media and most likely that kids will copy what they see as they don't have the knowledge to know what right and wrong and get influenced easily as they may think its right just because one person is doing it on the media.

Two-step flow model

1) Summarise the two-step flow model. What is an opinion leader?

This means that the audience are more likely to be influenced by the opinion leader as they are easily influenced by celebrities or people on the media due to their parosocial relationship.

2) How do influencers like Zendaya fit into the two-step flow model?
when you are interested in a certain influence you put in your energy and time wit their parosocial realtionship which means you are more likely to gt influenced by Zendaya and agree with her beliefs and opinions as you are her fan.

3) In your opinion, is the two-step flow theory still relevant today?
Indeed, one could argue that it is much more relevant and well-known now since influencers have more clout and their content is easier to get.

Uses and Gratifications theory

1) For each of the four categories, write about one media text (e.g. film, TV programme, newspaper etc.) that fits that particular audience use or pleasure. Make sure you explain WHY it fits the category and use images or clips to illustrate your points. The first one is done for you.

Diversion: Film - Blinded By The Light. Entertaining and offering escapism for fans of Bruce Springsteen or anyone that enjoys coming of age films or culture-clash comedies.
Personal Relationships: im a celebrity get me out of here!-  because people have their own opinion on people and want certain people to win.
Personal Identity: breakfast club-as you a (student)would relate to other students as they might have the same school experience.
Surveillance: Blue Planet-as it is educational as you learn about global warming and the innocent animals harmed by us humans.

Dependency theory

1) Do you agree that audiences have become dependent on the media? What evidence or examples can you provide to support your view?
Yes i thin that people are more dependent on the media as thats what they use watch the news about the world and help them live their everyday life.

2) How has the growth of new and digital technology in the last 15 years changed people's dependency on the media? Is this a new problem?
Since audiences are now more reliant on the media for information than they were in the past due to the exponential advancement of technology and everyday routines, the issue is undoubtedly more serious.

3) Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? Why?

I think it has an positive and negative impact as it puts pressure on you to be like celebrities and be successful in life but also help when im in a upset mood as there are funny things on the media that will make your mood change and i try to only use the positive side of the media and not any that will be harmful for my mental health.
